Structure of an online course

Modified on Mon, 11 Sep, 2023 at 2:35 PM

To add course content, click "Edit topics" from the introductory screen in the top right corner.

The author tool will now open in a new tab. On the left you see the table of contents, where you’ll build the structure. The structure consists of modules and chapters. You can include chapters in the modules, which the user must complete in order to finish the module. We recommend making 3 to 5 modules, and also 3 to 5 chapters per module. The modules and topics are on the left.

First, add a module by clicking the “Create new module” button. You give the module a name and then click the blue “Create” button. After the module has been created, click on the plus sign and a text box will appear with “Create new topic.” Enter the topic title here and click the blue “Create” button. Repeat this process until your entire outline is in the correct structure. Everything you put in the topics are called items, these will appear in the area on the right. You fill this area with the contents of your course, by means of text, images, videos and questions.

There are 8 types of content you can use. These are Explanation, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Fill the blanks, Text assignment, Document assignment, Video assignment, and Fork (adaptive learning track). More information about these types can be found in the various FAQ articles in the folder Online courses - author tool.
