How do I create a learning track?

Modified on Fri, 13 Sep at 3:14 PM

It is possible to combine the different types of learning items (micro learnings, online courses, events, external courses) in a learning track. A learning track gives users guidance and focus within the academy's offer. You can base a learning track on a position profile or as a development option. You can also deploy a learning track to prepare for an (external) course.

If you want to create a new learning track, go to ‘Library' > Learning tracks’ in the LMS. Then click on the blue button in the top right-hand corner 'Create new track.’ A pop-up screen will appear in which you can name the learning track and choose between a flexible or sequenced learning track.

After clicking on ‘Create’, you can fill in the details of the learning track, enter a description, and set the learning objectives. You can add the various learning items under the header ‘Learning content’. Add a new item to your learning track. If you choose the ‘Sequenced’ option, all learning items are mandatory. If you choose ‘Flexible’, you can opt to make some learning items optional. These can for instance serve as an addition to the required content or are only relevant to a select group of employees. Keep in mind that the learning track will be registered as complete when all required learning items in a learning track are completed. The optional learning items do not have to be completed in order to complete the learning track. These learning items do remain visible under ‘To do’ in the employee learning progress.

This is an example of a flexible learning track. All the learning items are mandatory, but can be completed in a random order.

You can also make titles to give your learning track more structure. This ensures a clear overview when the employee starts the learning track. You can put the titles and individual learning items in the right order yourself by easily dragging the titles up or down. You can also link a deadline to individual learning items here and link a notification to this so the employee receives an email a few days before the deadline saying the deadline is approaching.* Under settings you can adjust the visibility of the learning track and if desired add categories or tags.

* The interim deadline will be set for every employee and becomes a unique date after assignment. Let's say you assign a learning item on 1 January. If a learning intervention is to be completed 3 weeks after assignment, the deadline for this item will be 21 January. You can of course also set an overall deadline per employee when assigning the learning track. This will be clearly visible during assignment.
