An employee must meet certain requirements to log in via SSO. The overview of requirements can be found in the article 'What is needed to log in via SSO?'. One of the requirements for logging in via SSO is that the employee's Studytube account must have a User ID (UID). When an employee is added manually, the UID will be empty. As a result, manually added employees cannot log in via SSO. To solve this, it is possible to set up a so-called 'whitelisting' in Studytube. This article explains how that works. The following topics are covered:
What is whitelisting?
In Studytube, it is possible to whitelist email domains. This means that employees whose UID is empty can still log in via SSO, provided their email address meets the whitelisted domain. So if all your employees, for example, have an email address ending in @company.nl, you could whitelist this domain.
Important considerations
When using an HR integration, our advice is always to add accounts manually as little as possible. Manually created accounts must be managed manually, and that administrative work is what you are trying to avoid with an HR integration. Whitelisting domains is particularly suitable in the following situations:
- Your organization has an SSO but does not have an HR integration with Studytube.
- Your organization does have an HR integration, but sometimes there are employees who need to be created manually because they are not in your HR system (e.g., interns)
When choosing to use whitelisting, it is important to consider the following points:
- Security: Whitelisting email addresses must be done carefully to avoid security risks. Only add trusted email addresses to the whitelist.
- Organization email addresses: Only whitelist email addresses that are specific to your organization. Email addresses such as @hotmail.com or @gmail.com are not whitelisted by Studytube.
How do I set up whitelisting?
You cannot set up whitelisting yourself in the LMS; this is something Studytube does for you. Do you think whitelisting would help your organization? Then contact [email protected].
